Ion-Anchored Dust Shield
Engineering-Grade Polymer Cohesion System
Active HC™ is an advanced organic polymer system engineered to deliver persistent surface cohesion by addressing particle–surface chemistry rather than relying on a removable surface film.
The system combines controlled hygroscopic moisture buffering with ionic anchoring at mineral interfaces to create deeper, longer-lasting cohesion than conventional film-forming dust suppressants.
How It Works
Traditional dust suppressants form a temporary surface film that degrades under traffic, UV exposure, and environmental cycling. Active HC™ operates differently.
Cationic species and polymer ions selectively adsorb onto mineral surfaces, compressing the electrical double layer and promoting ion-bridging through inner-sphere adsorption. This ionic anchoring stabilises particle interfaces at a chemical level rather than merely binding them mechanically.
In parallel, integrated hygroscopic components retain bound moisture within the treated zone, helping to:
- Maintain cohesive structure
- Reduce rapid desiccation
- Improve resistance to wind and traffic-induced breakdown
The result is a treated surface that resists wash-off, UV degradation, and microbial attack more effectively than conventional organic ligand systems.
Application Protocol
Active HC™ is deployed using standard site practice:
- Surface preparation and moisture pre-conditioning
- Batch formulation
- Uniform application
- Controlled penetration and consolidation
- Curing and verification
Performance monitoring focuses on:
- Penetration depth
- Runoff and leachate control
- Cohesion retention under traffic
- Behaviour under environmental cycling
No specialised equipment is required beyond conventional application systems.
Operational and Commercial Advantage
The primary benefit is durability-driven cost reduction.
By stabilising particle interfaces chemically rather than relying on a sacrificial film, Active HC™:
- Extends service intervals
- Reduces reapplication frequency
- Lowers water demand
- Decreases maintenance overhead
- Improves surface reliability
For operations where water scarcity, haul-road maintenance, or routine reapplication represent significant operational expense, Active HC™ offers a measurable reduction in whole-life cost.
Typical Applications
- Haul roads
- Storage pads
- Trafficable unsealed surfaces
- Industrial yards
- Dust-prone operational zones
Where persistent cohesion is required with minimal intervention, Active HC™ provides a technically grounded and commercially efficient solution.
